2018 British Moto GP at Silverstone with IQOS

I’m sure I don’t need to tell you how much of a fan I am of anything bike related especially racing and Moto GP! Last weekend I got a very special opportunity to go to Silverstone for the British round of the 2018 Moto GP World Championship with IQOS

Our day began with an early pickup from our hotel in Milton Keynes. Not that I was complaining as I couldn’t wait to get to the track! We arrived at Silverstone nice and early just as Moto 3 FP3 was starting… perfect timing!

We were hosted by IQOS who had one of the hospitality suites in the VIP Village right next to the track. You literally couldn’t get much closer to the racing!  The vantage point overlooked one of the best part of the track, between Copse and the series of turns most well known; Maggots, Becketts & Chapel.

It was really special to be up so close to the track! The bikes going past at over 150mph made for capturing photos tricky!

The IQOS lounge was so cool! Along with showcasing their latest range of heated tobacco and precision vaping products, it had its very own DJ, bar (of course!) lots of Andrea Dovizioso & Jorge Lorenzo replica racing memorabilia and one of the Ducati Desmecdeci X2 bikes!

Of course I couldn’t pass on a photo opportunity with the Desmosedici GP bike!

We shared the IQOS lounge with a few celebrities, including ex Super model Jodie Kidd & ex motorcyle racer James Haydon!

We must of timed being in the paddock perfectly! As we passed the Yamaha garage who should come out on his scooter, only the GOAT Valentino Rossi! I was pretty lucky to get a photo of The Doctor!

One of the best parts of the day was meeting Ducati rider & former world champion, Jorge Lorenzo in the Ducati Hospitality suite! Being a bit of a Moto GP geek, I might of had a few questions ready to ask!

One of the questions I asked Jorge was what was it like to ride in the race at Assen this year, probably one of the best races in the last 5 years!

We even got a very special opportunity to go into the Ducati garage! We met some of the team including Davide Tardozzi, team manager and learn more about the Ducati Desmedeci GP bikes. I wanted to know how came up with the with the petrol tank extension for Jorge Lorenzo’s bike! Apparently it was Jorge himself who came up with the idea!

Our VIP village passes got us access into the grand stands. The one next to the VIP Village had a great view of Magotts and Becketts!  Then on to the sweeping double left hander of The Loop & Aintree.

Moto GP qualifying finished with a Ducati front row lock out. Jorge Lorenzo taking pole position and Andrea Dovizioso taking second! Marc Marquez was back in in fifth! After qualifying finished we had time for a look round outside of the Moto GP village.

I managed to get sneak preview of the new Moto 2 bike for the 2019 season, a race tuned 765cc Triumph triple, based on the Street Triple!

There wasn’t much time left in the day, which meant we had to leave to get to the train back home (much to my disappointment! Thank you to IQOS & W Communications for such an amazing and memorable day!
