6 ways to stay motivated at the gym

I don’t know about you, but working out usually makes me feel energised, but sometimes I struggle for a bit of self motivation be it actually getting or when I’m at the gym! I thought I’d do a post on some tips to making sure your keeping motivated for the gym!

Track progress

Have you ever had that feeling like your routine is getting you no where? Tracking your actual progress is a good way of getting that motivation back! Weigh yourself once a week, make sure its at the same time of day. You can also measure your biceps, stomach etc to track physical progress. Fitness apps such as MyFitnessPal are quite useful.

Set realistic goals

Ambition is all well and good, but you need to be realistic in your goals. If you want to get 20 inch biceps in a couple of weeks you may as well carry on dreaming! Make sure your goals are realistic and achievable. Once achieved you’ll feel a big sense of achievement, then set yourself another target!

Create a gym playlist

Choose a selection of music that gets you pumped up and play through your favourite headphones.* Perfect for blocking out the annoying gym music or the grunting sounds coming from the free weights area!

Vary your exercises

Doing the same routine over and over can get boring and you’ll eventually plateau. Change your exercises every few weeks to help build new muscle and to beat that workout boredom.

Get a training partner

Training with someone else not only motivates you to go to the gym but can increase your results. Having a spotter can help you push out those last few reps which you’d struggle to do on your own. This can have a big effect on helping to acheive your goals!

Refresh your gym wardrobe

Some new active wear can help give you added enthusiasm to get your workout to the next level and help you achieve your goals!

Have you got any tips for keeping up motivation for the gym? I’d love to hear what they are.
