I don’t know about you, but I’ve never really enjoyed gardening that much… I’ve always found it a bit of a chore! That was up until recently, when I got my hands on a brand new McCulloch petrol lawn mower & grass trimmer! If you’re a regular follower on social media (you better be?!) you’ll know I’m a bit of a Petrol head.. so this was more than up more my street!
For years, I’ve always had an electric lawn mower, which inevitably ends in the electric cable getting in the way and nearly cutting through it on more than one occasion! Not only that but it does struggle with longer grass because of a lack of power! McCulloch have a big selection of machinery that will help you get those garden jobs done much quicker! I got to see exactly what 2 of them were like; the M53 150AP 4×4 lawn mower & T26 CS grass trimmer.
M53 150 AP 4×4 Lawn mower
A 4×4 lawn mower? Yes, you are reading that correctly! A 4 wheel drive lawn mower (the only one available on the market!), that’s capable of tackling the toughest of jobs! From larger size gardens to steep grass bankings, this mower will toughest of lawns!

It’s 4 wheel drive system makes for very easy maneuvering round your lawn! The mower is powered by a reliable Briggs & Stratton engine, these things are built to last! The engine packs 147cc of power (that’s more than my first motorbike!) It’s self propelled with variable speed control, which is really easy to use. It starts and stops as soon as you press/depress the lever speed control levers and makes cutting your lawns effortless. Without the self propulsion, it’s quite heavy to push around a lawn.
The 4×4 mower is very simple to start (that’s a 4-stroke engine for you!) all it takes is one pull of the chord and it’s away… it’s that easy! It’s a soft pull chord as well so you won’t do yourself an injury trying to pull it!
Adjusting of the cutting height is really straight forward. You just need to adjust the quick release lever on each wheel, there are 9 different settings, 25-102mm! The grass collector has a huge 65 litre capacity, you’ve got to do some serious cutting before its ready to be emptied!
If storage for your gardening equipment is a bit scarce, fear not as the McCulloch lawn mower folds down to take up much less room on your shed or garage.
Using the McCulloch 4×4 lawn mower has been a real pleasure and made me look forward to doing the garden! Cutting of my lawns is now so much quicker, easier and I’m mightily impressed by the quality of the cut you get!
T26 CS Grass Trimmer
Unlike the 4×4 mower, the T26 CS trimmer has a 2-stroke engine. Notoriously, 2-stroke engines can be harder to start, but this one is really easy! If your not familiar with 2-stroke engines, you need to add 2-stroke oil into the fuel, which you can do in a mixer bottle to make sure you get the right amount!
Once it’s been purged (carburetor pumped with fuel) it starts easily with the soft start pull chord. What’s more, a full tank will last you ages… providing your not cutting an entire field or something! It is heavier than an electric grass trimmer, but what do you expect when it has a petrol engine? The trimmer has variable speed through use of the throttle on the shaft.
The trimmer has a unique ‘tap & go’ function, which means you just need to tap the head on the ground for it to release more line. It also has an interchangeable head so you can change it to into another power tool such as hedge cutter & pruner.
As you can imagine petrol powered machinery can be noisy and a bit hazardous so hearing and eye protection is definitely a good idea if you want to look after yourself!
I can honestly say using the McCulloch range mower and trimmer has made doing the garden actually enjoyable. They’ve made getting the gardening done much quicker, not only that, I do look forward to using them… (what petrol head wouldn’t)!
