Choosing an outfit for Dress Down Friday

Dress down Friday, Casual dress day, non-uniform day, what ever you like to call its… my favourite day of the week, not just because the weekend was so near but because it gave me the opportunity to wear something else other than formal office wear like trousers and shirt and bridge the gap between smart and casual!

Finding something that’s suitable for dress down Friday that was ‘business casual’ always takes a bit of thought! It’s not like you can just throw on any t-shirt and pair of shorts, unless you work in IT, those guys seem to have their own rules for everything… especially fashion!

Dress down days for me, are unfortunately not a regular occurrence but when they do happen its important to choose something that’s smart casual, suitable for the office and meetings but at the same time an outfit that you can also go for after work drinks, I mean it is Friday after all!

For me, smart casual office wear has to include a collared shirt of some description! For a slightly more casual look, this striking white polo shirt from Asquith & Fox would make an ideal choice!

I do like a classic looking logo… how good does the fox embroidered emblem look on the front?  Red on white is a classic combination right? But if that’s not quite your thing, fear not… there are another 45 different colour options to choose from!

Jeans are sometimes perceived to be a bit too casual for dress down day, a pair of slim fitting chinos would be my first choice. For me, the khaki finish contrasts well with the white polo shirt.

To finish off the look I chose these suedette chelsea boots from Newlook which completes the smart casual look. If your looking for a more casual look, a pair of loafers would also compliment well with this outfit!

when I used to work in financial services I hated dress-down Fridays as there seemed to be even more rules than there were on the other days of the week: no sleeveless tops, no crop trousers, etc. It was much easier on the days when I just wore a suit.
