I’m sure most will agree that having a hectic 9-5 job often means weekends are needed for some well earnt R&R time! What better way to chill out and relax and forget about everything than a spa day, right? So when I was asked if I’d like to spend the day at Devonshire Spa in Buxton, I couldn’t think of anything better to help escape the stresses of everyday life!
Devonshire Spa is part of the Devonshire Dome complex in Buxton that also includes lots of other facilities such as Restaurant, Cafe and a Salon! All located under one roof in the striking domed building which dates back to 1779. Last Saturday I took a short (I mean long drive thanks to my Sat Nav!) from Leeds to check the spa out. I arrived a little later than expected, but the friendly and helpful staff were able to move things around so I could still have the treatments I’d been booked in for.
I was asked to fill in a quick medical questionnaire about any conditions or allergies before being shown to the amazing looking changing rooms, where you’re provided with robe, towel, slippers and a locker to put all your belongings in.
The Spa had arranged a bespoke package of treatments for me. After having previously used the natural and organic ISHGA men’s skincare range, (review here) I was really keen to find out what they’re treatments were like. I had the ISHGA Anti-ageing rejuvenator facial, and the ISHGA Marine back therapy was combined into a single treatment with the ISHGA Detoxifying seaweed body wrap. The Spa offers all sorts of treatments for face, body and also rituals.
First up was the ISHGA facial, which was a 60 minute treatment. It’s designed to revitalise and repair and helps to protect your skin from environmental damage. What better time of year to have a facial? It started with a quick consultation with the Therapist explaining about the treatment before I got myself comfortable on the treatment bed. The low level lighting and soothing music in the background helped make you so relaxed.
The treatment included various hot and cold therapies, including cleansing, toning and moisturising all to help revitalise and nourish the skin. It also included a mask which was cold but refreshing and made even more relaxing whilst the Therapist used different massage techniques. The whole thing was just bliss and before I knew it, a little rang to mark the end of the session, and more to wake me up in case I’d fallen asleep!
My next treatment was a 2-in-1, Marine back therapy and Detoxifying seaweed wrap, which was for 90 minutes. Again, it back with a brief talk about the treatment and what it’d involve. The Marine back therapy is a rejuvenating and detoxifying ‘facial’ for your back, which incorporates seaweed, lemongrass and essential oils to provide a toning and nourishing treatment. It included a firm but relaxing back massage which felt really good and helped to ease out any tension.
The next part was the Detoxifying seaweed body wrap, the seaweed gel is designed to eliminate toxins, reduce cellulite (luckily I don’t have any!), boost energy and improve skin tone. Whilst this was applied, deeply relaxing massage techniques were used, let me tell you, they were! A quick shower to wash off the seaweed gel and then the treatment was completed with moisturising and a little bit more massaging. I actually felt quite tired afterwards which is a sure sign just how relaxing the experience was!
My package also included a delicious and very healthy lunch, I mean what else would you want on a revitalising Spa day? There was so much choice and lots of it too!
It included a choice of different wraps, charcuteie selection, lemon chicken, humous, cous cous salad and more. I certainly didn’t go hungry. The staff were all really friendly and made sure you were always offered a drink. After all, water is so important to help maintain healthy skin!
As you’d might expect from a Spa, it has lots of amazing facilities… it has the usual Sauna and Steam room along with a Hydroptherapy pool, Monsoon showers (iced & hot), Reflexology foot baths, Aroma room and a Tranquil relaxation lounge. Its all very atmospherically lit to make your experience even more tranquil and relaxing.
It’s easy to see from the Spa facilities alone why it won Professional Beauty Day Spa of the year in 2016, it’s worth a visit to kick back, relax and unwind in the tranquil Spa facilities even if treatments are not your thing!
They even stock a wide range of beauty products including those used in treatments such as the full ISHGA range, Comfort zone and Caudalie so you can use favourite products at home too!
This is a place I’d definitely recommend visiting. Treatments start from £40 which I think is quite reasonable. There’s lots of different choices for the Spa days, starting from £65 which includes one hour treatment. Check out the Devonshire Spa site for more details. Have you been to Devonshire Spa?
