It’s not just girls that like to be pampered, us guys do too and we enjoy beauty treatments just as much right? The ‘modern gent’ always wants to look his best, but just how many beauty salons do you know fully cater for men as well as women? Well there’s a new salon that’s opened recently you might be interested in!

Spruce Moose is a Unisex Beauty Salon in the centre of Harrogate, North Yorkshire. It caters for men just as much as it does for women. They offer a wide range of treatments from eye brow threading, facials, waxing to full body massages! They even offer an express range, meaning you can be treated and on your way in 30 minutes!

I was invited by the team at Spruce Moose to visit the salon and experience some of the treatments they offer. This opportunity was right up my street, I couldn’t wait to go! You might of realised by now, I love everything to do with male grooming, treatments and products. So last Saturday I took a trip across to Harrogate to check them out.

As soon as I arrived at the salon, Emma, the salon manager and the other staff were really friendly and made me feel welcome. The salon is modern, clean and doesn’t feel too feminine. One of the first things I noticed when I arrived was the impressive range of Jack Black products they stock. Although I’ve not tried them, I’ve heard really good things about them.

The first treatment I had was the Express facial (30 minutes) with Maria. It started with a consultation about my skin and my cleansing, toning and moisturising routine and also whether I had skin allergies. The express facial I had used all natural and organic products by Comfort Zone. The treatment included a double cleanse, tone, exfoliation, mask, massage and moisturise.

The treatment room had a nice comfortable feel with relaxing music playing in the background, dimmed lighting and soft Egyptian cotton towels covering the treatment bed. I can’t remember the last time I felt so relaxed… At one point I was close to falling asleep! Afterwards I felt so rejuvenated, Maria did mention I had a few areas of dehydrated skin, but gave me some tips on how to combat this.

In between my next treatment, there was time to sort out the hard skin on the bottom of  my heels, (apparently it was even that bad)! it was kind of an express pedicure!  They even have massaging chairs for you to sit back and relax and enjoy whilst you literally ‘put your feet up’.

Next up was a treatment I was most apprehensive about… Waxing! I’d never had it done before so it was a case of the fear of the unknown for me. I had a small section at the top of my back done. I needn’t of worried though, it really wasn’t that bad!

I wouldn’t even call it painful, just a very slight sting (that even sounds too much) for a split second, but totally bearable! I can imagine more intimate areas would be slightly more painful. It is something I’d have done again, maybe my chest if I’m feeling brave enough!

Lastly, I finished by having a Spray tan. Another first for me. Although I am partial to going on sun beds every now and again! The spay tan is available in a number of different shades from light to body building competitor dark! I opted for no. 10, a mid range one! It’s a really quick and easy process and leaves you with a nice healthy looking glow for 7-10 days.

You can join the salon for £9.99 a month and save 40% on the price of treatments. So the express 30 minute facial like I had, would cost £21 compared to the non-members price of £35. It is a place I’d recommend to other men, I for one, can’t wait to go again! You can check out Spruce Moose for more information or to make a booking. Thanks to the team for inviting me along.
