There are some brands that you often associate with a specific group. I know a few, shall we say ‘older’ men who are quite fond of Gant. Knowing they’re a popular brand for the more discerning gent I was a little unsure what to expect from their signature scent and not having tried any of their other fragrances before.
Gant have released a number different fragrances, 6 in total! ‘Gant for men’ is there most recent scent and was released in 2011. Created by perfumer Piere Wulff, its inspired from the freshness of the ocean, dark woods and tar ropes, a very nautical feel! The scent arrived in a lovely looking gift box and might even save you wrapping it, if that isn’t our forte!
I love the look and the design of the bottle, especially the deep blue sea colour. It’s design is inspired by the wicker baskets that cargo ships from yesteryear used to transport fragile goods in!
Top notes in the fragrance consist of coriander, cinamon and amalfi lemon
Heart notes include lavender, virginia cedar and sea water
The base notes are sandalwood, amber, cypress and suede
I was a bit sceptical of the fragrance because of the perceived target audience of Gant and also how the scent opened with quite spicy top notes. Once it had settled, the heart and base notes left a nice refreshing woody, aquatic scent. For me, the sea water note really stands out.
The longevity of the fragrance is pretty good, I found it lasted for the best part of all day. I’d say its a great day time scent, perfect for office wear. For me the freshness of the fragrance make it ideal for Spring/Summer which is only just around the corner!
