2017 is here! Have you made any new years resolutions? If like me, you want to get your gym game back on track, this post might be just your thing. I used to go to the gym 5 days a week and was in alright shape, a change in job made this difficult to keep up. I really want to get back on track with my health and fitness in 2017. To help me do that, I need a balanced, but high protein diet.
I was recently sent some samples of FlapJacked Mighty Muffins & Pancake and Baking mix to try, just the motivation I need to get my gym game back on track!
The Mighty Muffins are protein packed, gluten free, high in fibre snacks which can be made in a matter of seconds. Each portion contains 20g of protein and is 240 calories, making it an ideal post workout snack.
The muffins even contain probiotics to help support immune health as part of a balanced diet.
The muffins are available in 6 different flavours:
- Double chocolate (240 calories)
- Cinnamon apple (220 calories)
- Peanut butter (230 calories)
- Maple pumpkin (200 calories)
- S’mores (210 calories)
- Chocolate peanut butter (240 calories)
There so easy to make, you just add water and microwave for 35-55 seconds and job done, its that simple!
I was a bit suspicious of how a muffin would taste that’s made in a microwave in a matter of seconds, but believe me, they are delicious! My favourite being the Double chocolate!
The muffins are quite large, so if you don’t think you could quite manage a full one you can split the contents in half and make in a microwave proof mug. As suggested, you do need to experiment with the cooking time a bit, as each microwave can vary slightly.
With the flavours, you just need to try them all. My preference is for the sweeter chocolate flavours. I wasn’t so keen on the apple cinnamon… that must be down to my sweet tooth!
As the name might suggest, the protein pancake and baking mix is a protein containing mix for making pancakes and also baking. It’s fibre rich and is also made with whole oats and coconut flour. The mix is made with whey protein isolate and pea protein intended to fuel your body and keep you feeling full. Its sweetened with fruits and vegetables, each serving gives 20g of protein and 200 calories.
The mix is available in 4 different flavours:
- Banana hazelnut
- Cinnamon apple
- Carrot spice
Making the batter for pancakes is really simple, you just add the contents to one cup and fill 2/3 with water, whisk and leave for 3 minutes. Then add the mixture in 3-4 inch pancakes to a hot pan. You’ll need to experiment what to cook the pancakes in, I tried butter at first but then changed to rapeseed oil and got better results.
I made pancakes with the banana hazelnut mix, for me, the taste was quite bland and I couldn’t really taste either banana or hazelnut or any sweetness. I am definitely going to try making the protein mix banana bread though. You could make all sorts of different things, just substitute normal flour for protein baking mix.
I really like the concept of FlapJacked, they make fantastic post workout snacks that are quick and easy to make and of course high in protein! They could be just what you need to kick start your healthy lifestyle in 2017! Check out FlapJacked for more information or details of where to buy.
