10 Things I like about the run up to Christmas

Christmas has to be my absolute favourite time of the year! I love Christmas day as much as anyone does, but for me, the lead up to the big day itself is definitely the best time of the festive period. I wanted to share a few of my favourites with you, well 10 in fact!

1. Christmas decorations

Is November too soon to put up decorations? Maybe so, but I do like to get mine up as soon as possible, but not so early the neighbours think I’m mad! This year it was the end of November as I was in Copenhagen for the Christmas markets the first week in December. There is no such thing as too many Christmas lights, I seem to buy even more and more each year!

2. Shopping for presents

Not everyone is a fan of Christmas shopping, but for me, I really enjoy it. I try and start quite early in November, but always end up still seeing things that I can’t help buying right up to Christmas eve.

3. Christmas baking

There’s so many different festive things that can be baked, from mince pies to Christmas cake! But what can be better and easier than the ginger bread men we made to decorate the tree with? Maybe a baking post coming soon…

4.Christmas films
I absolutely love festive films! What better way to chill out and get into the festive spirit then with a Christmas film. Home Alone is my all time favourite, I dread to think how many times I’ve seen it!

5. Advent calendars
I don’t think your ever too old to have an advent calendar, what better way is there to count down to the big day itself? A good quality calendar like my Thornton’s milk chocolate one is a absolute must!

6. Christmas music

Who doesn’t love hearing their favourite Christmas songs in the run up to the big day? For me, I’ve two favourites, Shakin Stevens – Merry Christmas everyone & The Pogues – Fairytale of New York.

7. Festive food & drink

As a bit of a foodie, Christmas can be a bit of a dangerous time for me, especially the amount of chocolate I indulge in! But Christmas wouldn’t be the same without putting on a few extra pounds would it?

8. Wrapping presents

To some wrapping might be a bit of a chore. But put on one of your favourite Christmas films and have a festive tipple to hand to make it a lot more enjoyable! If your anything like me, wrapping odd shapes seems an impossible task, gift boxes help massively.

9. Time off work
For me Christmas is one of the only times of the year when I can really relax, unwind and forget about work. Having 2 weeks off work at Chritmas has become a bit of a tradition for me!

10. Christmas eve drinks

The run up to Christmas just wouldn’t be complete without going out for festive drinks with friends and family on Christmas eve. This is the perfect time for spending time down at the local pub.

I'm the same with the Christmas lights, always finding new lights and new places to put them in the house
